Grey Knights are having a bit of a rough time in competative but in casual play you'll be fine. Painting wise they do have a lot of small details but like any army it comes down to how long you want to spend painting them. For a starter painter they are probably a little fiddlier than say painting some IG or some Guardian Defenders from Eldar.
