Yes the 2.0 diesel engine was a problem which Mazda should of remeded earlier, also many if not most manufacturers are struggling with DPF's used on short journeys. As I said previously our three Mazdas, admitedly petrol(165,000 miles total so far from new)have been paragons of reliability, and we would not hesitate to purchase another.

I've recently bought a late 2015 Mazda 6 2.2d Skyactiv. The car has 79k miles on with good service history. At 60k it had a new Turbo and at 64k it had a full carbon clean at the main dealers So far I've done about 600 miles in it, a mix of motorway (a couple of long trips, 120 miles each way) and town driving.

A friend of mine with a Mazda 6 2.0 diesel had dpf problems within 600 (mostly motorway )miles of purchase - from new! - followed by numerous visits to the dealer, All OK now though. The best diesel DPFs seem to be the closed coupled ones which usually achive passive regen.

When the ABC approached Subaru about reported DPF issues, it stated there had been "no Diesel Particulate Filter-related recalls since sales began in 2009". The solution is 'not to sell diesel cars'
